Perseverance: A Gift Table Moment

Life’s successes exist on the other side of Lake Perseverance. Lake Perseverance is filled with molasses, and must be swum under your own steam. Here, you earn every shoulder burning arm stroke toward success. It pulls every leg kick downward and strains against every leg kick upward, as you propel yourself slowly toward perseverance’s promise.

However, you cannot give up. Every stroke places you closer to your goal. Every stroke builds muscles you did not have before. Every stroke proves you can make it! When you pull yourself from the life draining molasses of Perseverance, you can flop down on the beach of success and cheer other’s arrival. Do not lament perseverance. Embrace your perseverance, because it teaches you what is critical for reaching and sustaining a successful life.

  1. I can understand your analogy of molasses and if all if had to do was reach the shore, I'd be committed to the fight. But, it seems like the shore point on the shore is moving. The longer I swim, the more distractions seems to cloud my target, creating a division of resources, like time and skill. Ultimately, I feel like I'm paddling in a circle trying to reach multiple places on the shore, all at once.

  3. You're almost there buddy! Look at all of your shore points, weight their current and future value, and paddle like crazy for the first shore point. Choose your shore point wisely and commit to it. For me, each truly important shore point helps me determine which shore point is next and so on.

Do you remember Legos? Reds, blues, greens, etc. If you want to build anything, you've got to choose the right colors and sizes, before putting anything together. The point: Your shore points all have some value, but not all have high priority or value, today or in the future.

Like Legos, you assemble those pieces that form a firm foundation. Ask yourself, what makes for a firm foundation in Gary's life - secure that first. Atop that firm foundation, you will have several options for adding pieces or shore points, but beware. Any Lego of similar size will fit any other Lego of similar size. The Point: Your life is built one shore point at a time.

Know what your life is supposed to mean, formulate a picture of what it supposed to mean, and only strive, with priority and importance, those shore points that fill in your "Best Life" picture. Who knew it would all come down to Lego's in the end. Thanks for sharing Gary.
